Border Control Post at Munich Airport
The veterinary border control post at Munich Airport monitors the import and transit of live animals as well as food and products of animal origin from third countries—that is, countries that are neither part of the EU nor granted equivalent status with regard to import conditions.
As part of the law reforming the state veterinary administration and food inspection system, the border control post was integrated into the KBLV on January 1, 2018.
The responsibilities of the border control post include, among others:
- Monitoring compliance with food safety, animal disease control, and animal welfare regulations for the import and transit of live animals and products of animal origin
- Informing the competent supervisory authorities of EU Member States via the EU notification system TRACES
- Taking food samples for further analysis as part of the import monitoring plan
- Cooperating with customs authorities, especially during checks on pets and products of animal origin carried by travelers
- Disposing of goods and food of animal origin carried in travelers’ luggage
- Monitoring the presentation of all consignments subject to import inspection based on aircraft cargo manifests
- Initiating measures in the event of violations
Further information on the import conditions for live animals, products of animal origin, animal by-products, and breeding material can be found in the following documents:
